THE AWAKENING OF A DANCER

AT RISE: Darkness. We hear a metallic ambient droning growing slowly in volume. The “Welcome to Edge Play” projection slowly changes to read “Part I: The Awakening of a Dancer”, then slides across to the stage right screen. Here the projection changes again to create a childish line drawing of a blue sky seen through a window, with the sun rising outside. A caption reads “CHEZ AMII, 6:47AM”. (This name should be changed, depending on who is cast as TEACHER.)

SETTING: TEACHER’s bedroom, early morning.

(The metallic drone resolves into the Infected Mushroom song “Dancing With Kadafi”, beginning in the melodic breakdown halfway through the track. The bedclothes move, and we suddenly realize that TEACHER has been laying hidden on stage this entire time. TEACHER dances a solo with the following structure:

TEACHER wakes up, stretches in his/her bedclothes, then falls back asleep.

6m16s:
TEACHER realizes that s/he has overslept, and races frantically to a shower setup stage left, showers, then dresses.

8m30s:
TEACHER rushes through the streets on his/her way to teach class.

8m56s:
TEACHER greets his/her class and begins teaching. The entire class dances in unison.
